How to use this site

This site is run using blogging software. That allows us to easily create announcements and gives you ways of keeping up with them. It also allows you to participate in the discussion and let us know what you think.

Receiving updates

If you’d like to subscribe to receive alerts when new announcements are posted, just click the “RSS – Keep up to date” picture at top right. If you are familiar with RSS you probably already know how it works. By subscribing to the feed you will receive updates in your RSS reader of choice – most web browsers now have this capability built in. Wikipedia has a decent explanation of what RSS is.

Unfortunately, at this time we do not offer updates by email, but may soon have this.

Commenting

Comments are open to all on most pages. You will need to register in order to comment however. It’s quick and painless and keeps the spammers away. Here’s how:

Just go to the bottom of any page and you’ll see a link under Meta for “Register”, click that (or here) and enter your desired username and a valid email address. It’s best to use your forum name so everyone knows who you are, but you’re free to use whatever you like. You will be emailed a password within minutes which you may then use to login (be sure to check your spam folder if you don’t see it!). The password can be changed once you log in.

Now you can comment on the site! Comment sections accept basic HTML, like <b>text</b> for bold, <i>text</i> for italics, etc.

Uploading an icon

Unfortunately, we do not have a native way to handle icons on this site, but you may use a third party service to have your icon appear next to comments here (rather than that boring grey guy).

We use Gravatar.com to help us with this. If you don’t already have a Gravatar you will need to visit that site and create one for the email address you used to sign up here. After that, it is automatically displayed.
